To revise the suffixes <-ery>, <-ary> and <-ory>

Introduction

Look at these words and identify the spelling patterns <-ery>, <-ary> and  <-ory>.  
Sound out the words stressing the pure vowel sound.

bravery,    necessary,   surgery,     imaginary,     theory,     history

Main Learning

Introduce the suffix <-ant>Which is found in nouns and adjectives of Latin origin.

It can make adjectives meaning ‘ to have the quality of’

eg if something is pleasant, it pleases you.

The suffix <-ant> can also make nouns that do the action of the root word.

eg a servant serves, a participant participates

Apart from in the word ‘scant’,which is a monosyllabic word, the <ant> ending in other words is unstressed and therefore the vowel is a schwa.

Remember there is no rule so the spelling must be learnt. A dictionary will help you spell the word correctly.

Write a sentence with certain words. Look at each word in the mirror and think of a word that means the opposite.

Parse the sentence, underlining each part of speech, identify the subject and then parse the verb.
