Week 23 Changing Grammatical Person

Learning Intention

To reinforce children’s ability to identify whether something is written in the the ‘first, second or third person, which can be singular or plural.

To develop an understanding that when the person is changed, the verb and the rest of the sentence must agree.

 

Introduction.

A sentence can be written in the first, second or third person, and the person can be singular or plural.

 

Let’s conjugate the verb ‘to be’ in the simple present and past tenses.

 

I am I was         
you are  you were
he/she/it is he/she/ it was
we are  we were
you are you were
they are they were

Look at this sentence

I went to the library. 
Which person is it written in? (1st person)

 

How do we write the sentence using the 2nd person / 3rd person singular.

 

I am in the football team. 
How do we write the sentence using the 2nd person / 3rd person singular.
What changes do you need to make?

 

The subject and the verb must always agree.
