Week 7 Synonyms

Learning Intention:

Develop the children’s ability to choose interesting words in their writing

Introduce the term ‘synonym’.

Revise the children’s understanding of antonyms, and that a thesaurus will help them to find the antonyms of a word.

Now consider,

What is the opposite of the word opposite?     same

These words have special names too: they are called synonyms 

Finding alternative words can sometimes help make sentences more interesting or add extra meaning.

I saw a big spider

Replace the word ‘big’ with a more interesting word.
